Ingredients for: Chocolate Cake

For the cake:

  • 225 g flour
  • 330 g sugar
  • 125 g butter
  • 20 g cocoa powder
  • 250 ml water
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda

For the icing:

  • 45 g extra fine sugar
  • 40 g butter
  • 90 g icing sugar
  • 15 g cacao powder
  • 40 ml water
  • 8 physalis


To prepare this chocolate cake, first, preheat the oven to 180 ºC. Then grease a 20 cm deep and round cake mold.
After that, in a saucepan over medium-high heat mix the water, butter, and sugar with the sifted cocoa powder. The mixture should not boil, just until the sugar dissolves is enough. Then stir it for 5 minutes and after that, transfer it to a large bowl and let it cool to room temperature. Now sift the flour, baking powder, salt, and baking soda and add them to the bowl. Mix the ingredients with an electric hand mixer for 3 minutes. Then add the eggs to the bowl and mix them well until the cake dough is smooth and paler in color. After that, pour the dough into the prepared mold.
Then bake the cake for 50 minutes and after taking it out from the oven, let it rest for 10 minutes and then unmold it.

For the cake icing

First mix the water, butter, and sugar in a saucepan over medium heat without letting it boil. When the sugar is already dissolved, sift the icing sugar and cocoa powder first and then add them to the butter-water mixture. Continue stirring it just for 1 minute and then remove it from the heat and leave it in the fridge for 30 minutes to cool. After that, take the icing out from the fridge and mix it a little bit with a spoon, and then cover the cake with it. At the end decorate your cake with icing sugar and physalis and it is ready to serve.
