Ingredients for Artichoke Pizza

Artichoke Pizza recipe

For pizza topping:

  • 6 artichoke hearts ( jarred or frozen)
  • 14 pitted black olives
  • 1 small purple onion
  • 200 g shredded mozzarella
  • 2 tbsp tomato sauce
  • 2 tsp oregano

For pizza dough:

  • 125 g flour
  • 75 ml lukewarm water
  • 5 g dry yeast
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

This homemade artichoke pizza recipe is for 1 pizza of 30 cm round and we prepare the pizza dough first.
Therefore in a big bowl, add the flour, dry yeast, salt, and sugar and use a wooden spoon to mix them well. Then gradually add the lukewarm water to the bowl and begin to knead the dough by hand for about 5 minutes. Continue kneading until the dough is forming into an elastic ball and it pulls away from the sides of the bowl. Now lightly dust your hands with flour and form the pizza dough into a round ball and transfer it to a clean bowl brushed with olive oil. Then cover the bowl with plastic wrap and leave it in a warm place. Allow dough to rise for 45 minutes or until it is doubled in size.

Meanwhile, we prepare the pizza toppings. If the artichoke hearts are jarred, first drain and then dry them well with the kitchen towel. If they are frozen, first defrost them and then dry them with the kitchen towel as well. After that, cut the artichokes and black olives in half. Then finely slice the onion.

After 45 minutes and once the dough has risen, gently deflate it with your hands. Then transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 3 minutes. Use your hands or a rolling pin to form a 30 cm round and avoid touching the edges of the dough. Now transfer the dough to the pizza pan lined with parchment paper.

Adding the pizza toppings

Time to add the toppings to the artichoke pizza. First, add the tomato sauce and spread it evenly with a spoon to cover the dough. Then add half of the shredded mozzarella on top of the tomato sauce. Next, add the onion, artichokes, black olives, oregano, and the rest of the cheese.

Now bake the artichoke pizza in the preheated oven to 220 ºC for 20 minutes until it’s crust is slightly golden.


Note: It is important to completely dry the artichoke hearts with kitchen towels before adding them to the pizza.
