Ingredients for:
Margherita Pizza

For pizza topping:

  • 2 tomatoes
  • 20 g basil
  • 150 g fresh mozzarella
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1 tsp olive oil

For pizza dough:

  • 125 g flour
  • 75 ml lukewarm water
  • 5 g dry yeast
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

This home made margherita pizza recipe is for 1 pizza of 30 cm and first we prepare the pizza dough.

Therefore in a big bowl add the flour, dry yeast, salt and sugar and use a wooden spoon to mix them well. Then add the lukewarm water gradually to the bowl and start to knead the dough by your hand more or less during 5 minutes. Continue kneading until the dough is forming into an elastic ball and it pulls away from the sides of the bowl. Now lightly dust your hands with flour and form the pizza dough into a round ball and transfer it to a clean bowl brushed with olive oil. Then cover the bowl with plastic wrap and leave it in a warm place. Allow dough to rise during 45 minutes or until it is doubled in size.

Meanwhile we prepare the pizza topping. First wash and then grate the tomatoes and add a pinch of salt to it. Also wash and then dry the basil leaves.

After 45 minutes and once the dough has risen, gently deflate it using your hands. Then transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead about 3 minutes. Use your hands to form a 30 cm round and avoid to touch the edges of the dough. Now transfer dough to parchment paper lined pizza pan.

It is time to add the toppings for the margherita pizza; first add the grated tomatoes and spread them with a spoon to cover the dough. Then add the fresh mozzarella. After that, add the oregano and then drizzle 1 tablespoon of olive oil on top of it. Just 5 minutes before your pizza is ready, take it out from the oven, add the basil leaves to it and then put it back into the oven. Because if you add the basil leaves from the beginning, they will burn.

Finally bake the margherita pizza in preheated oven to 220 ºC during 20 minutes.
