Ingredients for Margherita Pizza

For pizza dough:

  • 125 g flour
  • 75 ml lukewarm water
  • 5 g dry yeast
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

For pizza topping:

  • 2 tomatoes
  • 20 g basil
  • 150 g fresh mozzarella
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1 tsp olive oil

Instructions

This homemade Margherita pizza recipe is for 1 pizza of 30 cm round and we prepare the pizza dough first.


Therefore in a large bowl, add the flour, dry yeast, salt, and sugar and use a wooden spoon to mix them well. Then gradually add the lukewarm water to the bowl and begin to knead the dough by hand for about 5 minutes. Continue kneading until the dough is forming into an elastic ball and pulls away from the sides of the bowl. Now lightly dust your hands with flour and form the pizza dough into a round ball and transfer it to a clean bowl brushed with olive oil. Then cover the bowl with plastic wrap and leave it in a warm place. Allow dough to rise for 45 minutes or until it is doubled in size.

Meanwhile, we prepare the pizza topping. First, wash and then grate the tomatoes and add a pinch of salt to it. Also, wash and then dry the basil leaves.

After 45 minutes and once the dough has risen, gently deflate it with your hands. Next, transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 3 minutes. Use your hands to form a 30 cm round and avoid touching the edges of the dough. Now transfer the dough to a pizza pan lined with parchment paper.

Add the toppings

Time to add the toppings to the pizza. First, add the grated tomatoes and spread them with a spoon to cover the dough. Then add the fresh mozzarella. Next, add the oregano and then drizzle 1 tablespoon of olive oil over the pizza.

Finally, bake the Margherita Pizza in the preheated oven to 220 ºC for 20 minutes. Just 5 minutes before your pizza is ready, take it out of the oven, add the fresh basil leaves, and then put the pizza back in the oven.

Note: Since the basil leaves are very tender, you can add them to Margherita Pizza when serving.
